Why did you decide to pursue the CCMP?

My journey began in grade school when I realized I was horrible at taking tests and rote memorization. Fast forward many decades, and years of experience later, it became a personal challenge to prove my teachers wrong. With many years of change management experience, and certified in a few different methodologies, I felt confident I could do this - regardless of the outcome.

How did you prepare for the CCMP?

While I was somewhat confident I knew the material from my years of experience, that did not guarantee me a passing score, so I aligned the Standards to what I knew change management in practice to be and then looked for any missing steps or pieces. Not a perfect system, but it was the best way for me to manage my stress around taking the test. I also remembered to "breathe" every so often! For anyone that suffers from test anxiety, I tell them this: If you have been successful in leading or being an integral part of a change initiative, you will do better than you think.

How has earning the CCMP benefited you personally and professionally?

From a confidence perspective, taking the test and passing was amazing. I will never forget the day I found out at the conference in Dallas. Professionally, I do not think the market place has caught up yet, but that does not stop me from telling my clients that I am certified and what that means. They typically pay a little more attention to me at that point. My CCMP designation is on my LinkedIn profile, business cards. It helped secure a contract to lead change for an ERP with a local government agency.
